Global Warming, Subsidies Fuel a Nuclear Renaissance
I think the verdict is still out on nuclear energy. There is a lot of reasons why it makes sense (better for the environment, helps us become less dependent on oil) but also lots of reasons why it is dangerous (obvious risk to humankind when spilled or used in bombs).
If recent proposals succeed, the United States will get its first new nuclear power plants in 30 years. Spurred by the economics of carbon-neutral energy production -- and healthy federal subsidies -- dozens more nuclear power plants are in the planning stages.
