Carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere have risen 35% faster than expected since 2000, says a study. This pretty much echoes a few other articles posted lately and is not new information. Just to keep everyone updated though – things are clearly getting worse for planet earth and its ability to handle our CO2 emissions.
Of the 35% increase, 17% is attributed to inefficiency in the use of fossil fuels. The other 18% is attributed to a decline in the natural ability of the land and oceans to soak up CO2 from the atmosphere.
The research, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), was carried out by the Global Carbon Project, the University of East Anglia, UK, and the British Antarctic Survey.
