The amount of carbon dioxide being absorbed by the world’s oceans has reduced, scientists have said. Not good news… While it is still being debated, it would appear our emissions have saturated the ocean. If that is true, then more and more of our carbon emissions will be left in our atmosphere resulting in a further increase in global warming. Recently I posted an article about removing some of the CO2 already in the oceans – that would appear to be more pertinent by the day.
Details of the study are as follows: University of East Anglia researchers gauged CO2 absorption through more than 90,000 measurements from merchant ships equipped with automatic instruments. Results of their 10-year study in the North Atlantic show CO2 uptake halved between the mid-90s and 2000 to 2005.
