A quarter of China's greenhouse gas emissions are produced making goods exported to the West, a report from a UK government-funded body has found.Sounds pretty obvious… A large part of China’s CO2 emissions can be linked to the fact that they export like crazy. According to the Tyndall Center, who published this report, net exports account for 23% of China’s total emissions. To me, this is just icing on the top of some business plan out there that aims to market an emission-reducing solution. With opportunities like this, I really feel like we, America, need to create an environment to catalyze such businesses. However, where are the incentives? Do they exist? If so, how do you find them? If Dell can pitch an initiative that calls upon innovators to create a green solution (see post from yesterday), why can’t the U.S. do that as a nation?
The article and now this blog ask the question…
"Should countries be concerned with emissions within their borders (as is currently the case), or should they also be responsible for emissions due to the production of goods and services they consume?"
