CNN.com readers sound off on Gore, Nobel Peace Prize

Summary: To quote the article, “CNN.com asked readers to share their thoughts on the Nobel Prize, global warming and Gore's selection. The response was overwhelming.” This is a must read and cannot really be summarized. Responses range from “This is as deserving an award as one can be. Al Gore is the undisputed champion of raising awareness about global warming and other environmental hazards.” to “What a disgraceful choice. Al Gore has promoted bad science and dishonesty, but done nothing to promote peace.”

My Take: Wow, I’ve got to say I am a bit surprised by the negative outcry. As I said yesterday, I feel there are no real winners or losers when it comes to awards like this. The whole world is benefitting from the work the award recipient and runner-ups do. I second the response from John Gruber from Bremerton, Washington who puts a national-pride spin on things, “There is a certain national pride that should occur when someone wins the Nobel Peace Prize, and rather than condensing this award into a 30-second sound bite, and analyzing it, we should take a moment to reflect on ourselves and our nation.”
